The art of making ceramic tile has been around for over four thousand years. Although the way most tile is made today differs greatly from the past, some of the best tiles on the market today are still made in the traditions of old, by hand. Production by hand creates the uniqueness of handcrafted tile.The slight differences to the pressure of the clay being pressed into the mold,the moisture content of the clay or the thickness of the glaze application create variation between the tiles and makes a more lively product.
Most of our tiles are produced from a stoneware clay fired at cone 5 for a stronger product. Relief tiles are painted with one semi-transparent color or multi color underglaze with a clear overglaze. Variations in color and size are one of the obvious differences between handcrafted tile.
Find a color on the color page then pick out your style of tile. Our specialty is the high relief tile, they work great as a liner for kitchens and baths. Ceramic tile has definitely stood the test of time. Those test are still in force today, in the ancient tombs of Egypt.
